How to Download and install Sims 2 Objects for Newbies

I have one piece of advise for you just starting out on your venture for new things for the most funestest game there ever was. If you love the Sims 2 you will be downloading lots of stuff for your sims. you will most likely be entering many groups to do so. Both yahoo and Google. When you sign up for a group, be sure to check that you are setting your email settings to your preference. Daily digest or special notices will allow you to be informed of updates that you can go and download, and this option will not clog your inbox with every email that is sent to the group. When you are signing up for a group, don't just click on through these settings without paying attention to how you are setting up your email preferences. So many times people send nasty messages to my groups and the groups of my friends saying, "I don't want all this email knock it off" when they are responsible for their own settings. So pay attention to what you are clicking, and if you ever want to change your email settings in a yahoo group or a google group, it's no problem. You can do so at any time, but please don't send a nasty email to the group because you are getting too many emails, it's your responsibility to set up your email preferences. If you ever need any help with that, ask the group, or email me personally.

Blessings,

Chanda PuterWitch

These directions are for Windows XP. If you have Windows 98 you can follow along, it's not too much different. If you have any questions email me or post in the google group. You may get a quicker response by posting in the group. Please join the group by the box at the bottom of this page.

If you are not familiar with downloading and unzipping zip files then this is the easiest way to start out:

First you will need a program called Winzip. Click here to  get it, it's free. When it asks you if you want to start with classic, or winzip wizard, choose wizard.

Next you wil need one more free program called CEP, click here to go to it.

Part 1. Making two folders on your desktop for the zip files

This will ensure you always know where your zip files are. If you are already familiar with the folder to which your zip files open, in XP it is C:\unzipped, you don't have to bother with part one, but if you are unsure, then follow all the steps.

A. Go to your desktop and right click any OPEN SPACE, not an icon, an open space. point to new, then folder, and left click folder.  pic

name the folder "unzipped." do so by typing it in right after you create the folder, or right click the folder and choose "rename" and then type it in.

B. Now follow the steps above for the second folder, but name this one "zip files." pic

Part 2. downloading the zip file

A. Left click the link for the file, a link is most often underlined. A link is a piece of text that when clicked links you to a file. OK, so left click the link and this window pops up (pic)  choose save. use the arrow at the top of the save window to get the window to choose the desktop for the save location (pic) then double click the zip files folder.(pic) Then hit save.

B. A window will pop up that says "download complete"(pic) then click "open" the winzip window will open up (pic)

click "next" (pic) the window will now give three options. Leave the default one chosen, the first one that says unzip or install, and click next.

The next window that pops up, click "select different folder" (pic) now, in this new little window find the folder "unzipped" that exists on your desktop. you can first click the plus sign next to the desktop folder so that you can see all the files that are on your desktop, then double click the "zip files" folder, then click "OK" you should now see this window: (pic) click the "unzip now" button.

There! you've done it! see the file is now in the zip files folder that resides on your desktop. (pic)

C. OK, we are almost done, now to get this package file into your Sims 2 game:  right click the package file you see there in that unzipped folder and chose "cut" (pic)

now you will need to navigate to the game's downloads folder which is in your documents folder. If you are using XP you will click the green  start button at the bottom left of your screen, then click "my documents" (pic) {If you are not using XP, then the my documents folder would be on your desktop, just double click it.} then double click: ea games, then Sims 2, then Downloads. If the Downloads folder isn't there, then make one, and make sure you capitalize the D.

then right click any OPEN AREA in the folder, not on an icon, in any OPEN SPACE, and choose "paste" (pic)

YOU ARE DONE!!!  last step is to CLICK HERE!

after all of this you can go back in your zip files folder and delete the zip files, you don't need them anymore.

Blessings!
